5 Instagram pages you should follow to see Angola

Angola is a country of strong contrasts and overwhelming realities. A place deeply scared by colonisation and a civil war, where its people always find a way to bounce back from tragedy, through humour and perseverance.

With about a third of the country’s population living in Luanda, this city is as close as you’ll get to an Angolan jungle of concrete, welcoming new towers side by side ghettos with metal sheet tiny houses.

In contrast, the vast majority of the rest of the country is covered by savage nature and isolated communities that were never contaminated by the cultural assassination of the Portuguese presence.

All of those scenarios are captured by the cameras of young Angolans, who are unapologetically talented and passionate about their homeland.

Without further ado, here are the five Instagram pages for you get to know a bit more of this country:

Views of Angola

This group of adventurous photographers started snapping pictures of their surroundings about ten years ago, and it’s amazing to see how they have evolved. They travel the country several times a year, capturing the colours and movement of their muses with stunning perfection. They have a preference for natural landscapes and spontaneous portraits.

Angola on air

This page is quite recent, having the first picture from 2022. Basically, it is the best way to see Angola from the best perspective, with all the aerial shots you’ll get here. The evolution and refinement of the author’s craft is clear through the time and this person obviously loves a good road trip.

So, if you’re also someone who loves travelling by car, this page will definitely make you see Angola through the right lens and make you feel as if you got to see the best of everything.

Namibe Vitae

This is a page entirely dedicated to a province – Namibe. This is where you’ll find the enigmatic Namibe Desert and the unique Welwitschia Mirabilis desert plan, one of our national symbols. But don’t think the amazingness of this part of the country stops here…wait until you see the resorts and beaches.

Cidade de Luanda

As the name already suggests, this is a page about Luanda, the hectic capital I told you about in the beginning of this article.

This Instagram page was created to sort of instil the love for the city into the average Luanda inhabitant given that it is easy to overlook it’s good parts among all the chaos. As I see it, this page helps us remember not only the beautiful places, but also teaches us how to best love them.

You’ll find beautiful pictures, along with event suggestions, guides, tips and also history. All in a single page.

Cidade do Lubango

Cidade do Lubango shows one of the most beautiful cities in Angola, but no content has been added since 2016. Nonetheless, it’s worth the visit, especially if Angola is completely new for you.

Now, all you have to do is follow the above pages and let us know what else you’d like to learn about Angola, especially before you come visit.
