4 Websites about Angola by people who live here

Looking for information about Angola besides the disastrous economy and the greed of the leading political party? Well, luckily you found me. Below, there is information about the country, from its nature, food, what to do, where to stay and valuable tips. Because yes, here we have plenty of stuff to see and beautiful landscapes for you to visit.

Thus, without further ado, here are the 5 websites about Angola, created by the insiders:

Associação Tchiweka de documentação

The TCHIWEKA Documentation Association (ATD) is a voluntary, non-profit organisation with the fundamental mission of promoting and disseminating cultural, scientific and educational activities that help preserve the memory and deepen knowledge of the Angolan people’s struggle for independence and national sovereignty.

In 2012, it was recognized by presidential decree as an institution of public utility.

One of the pillars on which the ATD’s activities are based is the processing and publication of the existing documentary collection, which is largely made up of Lúcio Lara’s papers, to which are added contributions from various personalities.

The tasks carried out in this area led in 1997 to the publication of the first volume of “Um Amplo Movimento…” (A Broad Movement…), which includes documentation and comments by Lúcio Lara relating to the period before February 4, 1961.

Despite its human and material limitations, ATD has been fulfilling its main objective: to organise and enrich its collection and make it available to the public.

In 2021, the year in which this objective was taken further, with the creation of the portal that makes much of the documentation from the ATD archives available online, the Association’s work was recognized with the award of the National Prize for Culture and the Arts (the most important Angolan state prize for the cultural area) in the category of “Research in Social and Human Sciences”.

Vivre en Angola

Created by French expats, Vivre en Angola is definitely the place to go if you’re moving to Angola. It’s an independent news website where you will find tons of information, from what to know before coming, and living costs, to what to bring.

There is plenty of information about the country itself, its history, geography, people and languages. Health, transportation, education, and accommodation are explored topics as well.

You’ll find leisure activities, such as what sports to practice and where, which activities and associations to become part of and outings to have fun. And thanks to the French obsession with being thorough, there is touristic information not only about Angola but also the neighbouring countries.

If you think this is it, you’ve never met a French person. Want to know where to buy your groceries? Check! Nice restaurant tips? Check! How about schooling options for your kids? You guessed. Check!
